It’s time for Gypsy Mama’s Five Minute Friday. Five minutes to just write…to let the words flow out and never pout over editing. Today’s word is Grateful.
Grateful. It’s just a word.
Meaningless. Useless, Wasted. That is until it is watered by the goodness of God and it breaks up from the cold and darkened stillness, embodying life.
Drops of rain fall, taking the form of smiles, hugs, and kindness shared among friends. Gratitude holds the umbrella over the faithful companions with whom I walk through life.
There are buckets catching laughter. Sometimes quiet chuckles over shared secrets. Other times, belly rolling outbursts. Gratitude giggles and guffaws, cherishing that life is not all stuffy and serious.
Standing in the puddles of family–immediate, extended, spiritual–is messy and fun and filled with unexpected splashes of love. Like a child decked out in too tall boots, gratitude jumps in, cherishing the warmth of the water leaking between toes, and remembering that love comes alive when freely shared with those who have been and always will be the better part of who you are.
Gratitude can’t be bought or sold. It doesn’t barter. It only opens its hands…and receives.
And I am grateful; alive with thankfulness, freely watered by God’s goodness found in faithful friends, joy-filled laughter, and loving family.
Grateful. It’s just a word, until it is embodied by you and me.
